Ducklings Rescued from Sewer by Erlanger Police & Fire
It was an Easter weekend miracle for nine ducklings that fell into a storm drain.
Erlanger Police Officer Kim Klare was on patrol on Dixie Highway near Skyline Chili on Saturday afternoon when she was flagged down by a group of bystanders that had seen a mother duck frantically watching a storm drain.
Her little ducklings had fallen through the sewer grate into the basin as the duck family had been making its way around the Colonial Cottage.
Klare and Sergeant Todd Brendel called for assistance from Erlanger Fire Captain Bill Allen, Lt. Rob Hucker, and firefighter/medic Regis Huth. That trio removed the grate and were able to rescue a few of the ducklings using a pool net donated in a moment's notice by S.I. Pool Supplies.
But the other ducklings managed to roam further into the drain and up the sewer line. That's when Captain Allen flushed a nearby fire hydrant and floated the ducklings back down to a waiting Lt. Hucker who was able to get them out.
The duck family was reunited and transported to Forest Lawn Cemetery.
