The Covington Bicentennial Committee is thrilled to present the official kickoff of the COV200 celebration on Thursday, May 22. The event, designed for Covington enthusiasts of all ages, will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Drees Pavilion in Devou Park.
“We’re so excited to finally kick off the celebrations for COV200,” said Normand Desmarais, Chair of COV200. “The upcoming year is full of great events celebrating Covington, its residents, and everything that makes this city such a great place to live, work and visit.”
During the event, the COV200 team will launch their new iPhone app, premiere never-before-seen footage from the Bicentennial documentary and promotional video, and offer merchandise for the very first time. Attendees will have the chance to meet Bicentennial Ambassadors, find out how to get involved, and learn more about what’s planned to commemorate Covington’s 200 years of rich history.
“People are starting to get really excited for the bicentennial and all that COV200 will encompass,” said Vice Chair for COV200, Amanda Greenwell. “This celebration will be very much like a pep rally designed to get people ready for the exciting year to come. “
Admission to the COV200 Kick Off is free. There will be food, games, fun, a reverse raffle, and a cash bar available. Children under the age of 16 will be able to enter in a raffle for a chance to win an iPod Touch or an iPad. Complimentary transportation to and from the event will be provided. Interested individuals should meet at John G Carlisle Elementary for departure at 5:30pm or 6:20pm. Buses will return at 8:00pm and 8:40pm.
Pre-registration is encouraged. Register online at www.cov200.com under the events tab, or contact Kate Esarey to register by emailing [email protected] or calling (859) 547-5552.
