Pike Street Clinic for Homeless to Celebrate 25 Years

The Pike Street Clinic for the Homeless will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary on Monday with remarks from Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Michelle Kellar, Covington Mayor Sherry Carran, and Sister Ann John, RN who founded it with HealthPoint Family Care.

The clinic at 343 Pike Street opened in 1989 to ensure homeless patients received primary medical care and prescription drugs at no charge. In 2013, 2,700 visits were made to the clinic which is staffed by volunteer community physicians.

Local media personality and entertainer Nancy James will host Monday's celebration at the clinic and will be joined by The Brotherhood Singers. HealthPoint CEO Chris Goddard and Sr. Ann John will recognize the clinic's longtime donors.

The clinic is partially funded by a federal grant that is supplemented by smaller grants and contributions. The HealthPoint Hopebox Derby annual fundraising event has helped support the clinic for the past six years.

“This event is a thank-you to those in the community who make it their mission, through volunteering or making donations, to improve the health of the homeless,” Goddard said in a news release.

HealthPoint Family Care is a private, nonprofit medical and dental practice primarily for low-income and uninsured patients. HealthPoint’s health centers are in Boone, Campbell, Kenton and Jessamine counties.
