Police: Man Stole Lawnmowers, Weed Eaters to Feed Heroin Habit
A man is behind bars after allegedly stealing lawn mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and a power washer.
Damian Ewing, 25, is in the Boone County Detention Center facng charges of flagrant non-support, absconding probation & parole warrants, theft by unlawful taking (over $500), theft of identification, and giving an officer false information.
The thefts were reported in Burlington and the sheriff's office started investigating in late June. The thefts mostly took place on Fridays, investigators concluded. Late Friday, July 11, a detective spotted Ewing walking through Burlington and asked to speak to him. Ewing was arrested on two outstanding warrants and during an interview detectives said that they developed enough information, to charge him with two of the nine thefts reported.
According to the sheriff's office, more charges are anticipated once lab submissions are returned. Ewing, detectives said, admitted to stealing and selling the lawn equipment to feed his heroin habit.
