I-75 Reopens After Major Crash on Brent Spence Bridge
Interstate I-75 was shut down in both directions following a multi-vehicle crash on the Brent Spence Bridge that happened just after 12 p.m. today.
According to sources, the crash occured when one vehicle traveling southbound on the upper deck of the bridge fell onto the lower northbound deck. An officer from the Covington Police Department has told The River CIty News that the accident occured when a semi-truck pushed a vehicle that had been stopped in southbound traffic near the 5th Street exit in Covington off the upper deck.
Two vehicles traveling northbound were involved in a second crash once the flipped car landed on the lower deck. One of the vehicles involved in the second crash, an SUV, was seen straddling the bridge barrier.
According to a police report issued by the CPD, the crash involved a total of eight vehicles and six individuals were taken to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. Both I-75 northbound southbound lanes have reopened.
The crash is under investigation by the Covington Police Traffic Unit.
