New Principal Named at Latonia Elementary

Latonia Elementary has a new principal for the upcoming 2014-15 school year.
Joann James, an assistant principal at Covington Independent Public Schools' Sixth District Elementary last year, will take the helm at Latonia, replacing popular principal Tony Procaccino who took the same job at White's Tower Elementary in the Kenton County School District.
James was recommended by Latonia's school-based decision making council.
“I am privileged and excited to be working with the wonderful students, families and staff at Latonia Elementary,’’ James said in a statement to The River City News. “ Latonia is an excellent school where great things are happening.”
James has been an educator for twenty-two years. Before coming to Covington Schools, she served as a teacher in Boone County and Erlanger/Elsmere school systems
Superintendent Alvin Garrison said the SBDM found Mrs. James to be a strong instructional leader who advocates for students.
“I am absolutely delighted at the selection of Mrs. James,’’ Garrison said in a statement. “She will be great for Latonia because of her extensive experience and leadership abilities.’’
Mrs. James holds Master of Arts degrees in instructional leadership and education.
