Sports Briefs: NKU Soccer Battles to Another 0-0 Tie, Thomas More Inks Nike Deal, High School Notes
Mason County 32, Newport 28
Newport lost to Mason County 32-28 on Saturday night. The game began on Friday, but was suspended due to lightning in the area with the Wildcats up 6-0. Newport was unable to secure the lead however the next day and lost a close road game to a good opponent. The Wildcats host Walton-Verona Friday at 7:30.
Newport Central Catholic vs. Ashland Paul Blazer was canceled due to lightning, as was Scott vs. East Jessamine.
Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw in Nashville against Belmont on Sunday in a game that was also delayed by lightning for two and a half hours. The match was the Norse's final preseason contest. They begin the regular season by hosting the University of Cincinnati on Friday at 7pm. It will be the first regular season soccer match between the two regional schools.
The NKU women's soccer team also played to a draw against Morehead State on Sunday, 1-1, at home. Macy Hamblin scored the only Norse goal in the 50th minute. The NKU women's team is now 1-0-1 on the season and travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana on Sunday to play IPFW at 12pm.
Notre Dame Academy beat Highlands 2-1 on Saturday. The Pandas are undefeated on the season, 3-0.
The Ludlow Lady Panthers won the Ludlow Classic Volleyball Tournament over the weekend, beating Bellevue in the championship match, 25-18 and 25-21. Hailey Lillard, Tyler Smith and Tori Wofford were the three Ludlow players named to the all-tournament team.
Thomas More College reached an agreement to partner with Nike and BSN Sports that designates Nike as the official outfitter for Thomas More athletics. The partnership also includes marketing and promotional opportunities.
