It's Official: Comer to Tap McDaniel as Running Mate in 2015 Governor's Race
Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture James Comer will announce his running mate this week, State Senator Chris McDaniel of Taylor Mill.
McDaniel was elected in 2012 and represents northern Kenton County, including Covington, in Frankfort. Comer, elected to his current position in 2011, was previously a state representative from Tompkinsville.
The Republican ticket will be the second entrant in the GOP primary set for May 2015. Former Louisville Councilman Hal Heiner is running with former Lexington Councilwoman KC Crosbie.
On the Democratic side, Attorney General Jack Conway is running with State Rep. Sannie Overly (D-Paris).
On Wednesday, Comer is to appear at McDaniel's McD Concrete's new headquarters in Erlanger where he will formally introduce McDaniel as his running mate. An earlier announcement is expected that day in Tompkinsville.
Comer announced his intention to run for governor at last month's Fancy Farm event where McDaniel sat close by him on stage. The River City News was first to report that McDaniel would be Comer's running mate, in an exclusive story that ran in July.
Wednesday's event is scheduled for 3 p.m.
