Physical Education Just Got Much Cooler at this Highland Heights School
A local school is adding circus training to its weekly physical education offerings.
Cornerstone Montessori has partnered with Circus Mojo to provide their K-6th grade students with circus arts training and fitness for their weekly PE class. Beginning this fall, classes will be held at the Campbell County Branch YMCA in Ft. Thomas.
“After seeing Circus Mojo’s program up close and personal, it was obvious to us that we fit together like clowns and tiny cars! All kidding aside, Cornerstone Montessori and Circus Mojo share some core beliefs in our work with children. We both emphasize doing your best (and not worrying about how you measure up to your neighbor), teamwork, and having a positive attitude," said Mary Schadler, Cornerstone Founder and Director. "Our families agree, as was obvious when they unanimously voted to fund this addition to our program. We are thrilled about this partnership!”
“What a perfect collaboration - CMS and Circus Mojo! Both work with the community in their own creative ways to deliver joyful learning and fun," said Cornerstone parent, Amy McIntosh. "They even have similar teaching styles with emphasis on a hands-on approach. It seems to me that everyone will enjoy learning from one another in this newly formed team!”
While circus arts are as widely embraced as soccer or gymnastic lessons in other parts of the world, and perhaps most notably in Finland, this partnership will be the first of its kind in our area. Students will wow their families with semester results at a Holiday Performance at the Ludlow Theatre, Home of Circus Mojo in Ludlow on December 19.
“The Joy of Learning is Our Cornerstone,” the school’s motto, reflects their belief that Dr. Maria Montessori was definitely onto something when she stated, “One test of the educational correctness of the procedure is the happiness of the child.” Cornerstone’s partnership with Circus Mojo underlines these tenets.
Cornerstone Montessori School has been fostering the love of learning and providing an exceptional educational experience to students and their families in the Greater Cincinnati area for over 22 years. Students, Pre-K- 8th grade, thrive in small classrooms and with the individualized attention they receive from caring, certified Montessori teachers.
