The Newport School Board made the decision last Wednesday night to award the contract for the renovation of Newport High School to Morel Construction Company for the sum of $7,658,000. The project includes track and pavement coating, cafeteria upgrades, and LED light fixtures, but the entire project had to be re-bid because the first round of bids were all too high.
In the second round, three companies submitted bids: Century Construction, Morel Construction, and Performance Construction. Of those M,orel Construction was chosen as the lowest and best evaluated bid by Robert Ehmet Hayes and Associates. A revised BG1 was then accepted by the board to reflect the new bid price.
The board also approved the working budget which was first presented in January, then revised and presented in May. The total budget came in at $4,474,161.63, and was broken down in the 38 page document given to the board before the regular meeting last Wednesday, in case there were questions.
There was a unanimous yes vote from the board for the maintenance agreement with Sanitation District 1 for postconstruction storm water facility care. The board also adopted the 2015 KDE indirect cost rates to be applied in 2015.
