Thomas More Soccer Standout, Highlands Grad Named All-American
A Thomas More soccer player has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire All-American Team.
Senior defender Alex Dean, a Highlands grad from Fort Thomas, who played in all 22 matches for the Saints, was a third team selection. He anchored a Saints’ defense that posted 12 shutouts, while only giving up 14 goals and 181 shots, including only 77 on-goal. Dean also had nine points on four goals and one assist. At the conclusion of the season, he has been named first team All-PAC and first team All-Great Lakes Region.
Dean is the third-ever Thomas More men's soccer student-athlete to be named All-American as Alex Oeswein '12 was named to the NSCAA All-American Team in 2011 and current junior forward Austin Juniet (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) was named All-American in 2013.
The Saints finished the 2014 season with a 18-2-2 overall record as it won their sixth-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament and advanced to their sixth-straight NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
In addition to Dean, three other Saints were named to the All-Great Lakes Region Team.
Senior midfielder Christopher Lehan (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) and senior defender Jack Little (Versailles/Woodford County) were both named to the second team. Lehan had 15 points on four goals and seven assists and scored three game-winning goals. Little had 11 points on four goals and three assists, while helping the defense that post 12 shutouts and allowing only 14 goals.
Sophomore defender Tim Knauer (Batavia/Batavia) was a third team selection. He had 13 points on six goals and one assists, while scoring two game-winners.
