Covington Cafe Announces Closure
Bad news from Downtown Covington on Sunday as a relatively new coffee shop has announced that it is closing.
Blend opened in February at 10 East Fifth Street. An announcement on the cafe's Facebook page Sunday indicates that it has closed for good:
It is with a heavy and broken heart that I announce...
Blend is now closed.
We appreciate everyone that came in and supported us.
Made so many great friends.
Bobby will be at the shop thru-out the week. Stop in, have a cup of coffee and say goodbye.
Will post final thoughts later.
The cafe was opened by Bobby and Stephanie Kimball in the winter and he is better known as Bobby Maverick, the magician who attracts a large crowd at festivals in Mainstrasse Village and across the country. In September, it was one of eleven Covington businesses selected to receive stylish new signs through the CoSign arts program and is now the third to have closed.
In October, Blend announced a new midnight brunch that has been scheduled a few times and the cafe added a regular Sunday brunch recently, too.
The location has had trouble keeping a tenant over the past five years where Red Light Cafe, Wolf & Company, Flippin' Jimmy's, Pizza Bomba, and now Blend have opened and closed since 2010. The block is one that the City of Covington has targeted for redevelopment and is currently heavily marketing three properties.
