Child Walks Away as Lone Survivor of Kentucky Plane Crash
A 7-year old girl walked away from a plane crash that killed four others Friday night.
The Kentucky State Police in Eddyville reported a plane crash at around 6:30 p.m. Central Time. They said a caller to 911 reported that the girl walked to his home and told him that she had been involved in a plane crash. The child was in distress and was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
At the time of the report, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Memphis Center had confirmed that there was a distress call from a private aircraft in the Lyon County, Kentucky area.
Search crews soon after located the wreckage of a small plane in a wooded area off of Buckberry Trail. Four people were found dead at the site including the pilot and the remaining passengers.
Late Friday night, investigators reported that the plane had left Key West, Florida earlier in the day with a destination of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Federal investigators are expected to arrive at the crash site on Saturday.
