Dixie Moves from Upset of Cov Cath to Rout of Scott

Dixie showed no signs of fatigue after beating top-ranked Cov Cath a night before, as they coasted over Scott on the road, 84-59.

Dixie beat Cov Cath by playing a stifling zone and being big underneath on both ends. For the most part, the Colonels stuck with that formula and forced Scott into tough shots , relying on players passing well once they got in the paint.
Dixie guard Austin Schrek led all scorers with 25 points as he consistently drove the ball hard through the Scott zone and either scored on interior baskets or converted from many free-throw attempts thanks to his penetration with the dribble.
When it wasn't Schrek slicing to the rim, it was big man Andrew Hedger banging inside for put-back points or breaking down the zone with his passing from the post.  He and center Mitchell Bolin made life hard on the shorter Eagles.
The only way for Scott to score was from either very deep threes or from the free-throw line. While scoring sensation Jake Ohmer did manage 23 points and fellow guard Andrew Trame poured in 19 more, it was a struggle for both of them and Ohmer was practically phased out of the game in the second half.
The way Dixie rotated on defense, Trame became the focal point for Scott offensively whether intended or not. During a stretch in the third quarter, it looked like Austin Schrek versus Andrew Trame with each taking the majority of shots for their team. Trame missed more consistently, however, and a manageable deficit got out of hand rather quickly for the Eagles.
Dixie guard Drew Moore also helped his team pull away with an active third quarter as he and the Colonels forced Scott into too many turnovers which led to easy points to mount any meaningful comeback.
Dixie improves to 19-7 and plays at Cooper on Tuesday and then they finish their regular season when they host a surging Boone County team on Friday.  Scott falls to 15-11 and travels to Highlands on Tuesday and then host Cooper in their finale on Friday.
