Police Shoot Gun-Wielding Man at Florence Motel

A gun-wielding man is in critical condition after being shot by police at Florence motel.

Police were dispatched to the Florence Inn Motel on Dream Street after multiple calls to 911 about a man firing a rifle at the building, WXIX reported.

When police arrived just after 1 a.m., the suspect was reloading his rifle and refused to drop it. When the rifle was leveled at officers, he was shot, according to WKRC.

"Our officers responded on scene, engaged the individual, gave him multiple verbal commands to put the weapon down. At one point then, he actually leveled the shotgun at our officers, they fired several rounds, striking the individual,” Capt. Tom Grau said, as reported by WCPO.

The man was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition. All officers involved have been placed in administrative leave, WLWT reported.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting while the Florence Police Department conducts a standard internal investigation.

Thursday morning's shooting follows a deadly shootout in December at the former Super 8 Motel in which a suspect committed suicide after firing at an officer.
