Signage Approved for Covington Chipotle. Here's When It Could Open.
The new Chipotle coming to Downtown Covington's fast food district took another step this week when the Board of Adjustments approved the developer's signage requests.
Scott Katz of Midland Retail and Fourth Street Properties, LLC sought and was granted approval for sign on the forthcoming structure's west facade, a larger pole sign, and to have the pole sign closer to the public right of way than allowed by ordinance.
The developer agreed to explore options for attractive landscaping around the sign.
In August, The River City News reported that a Chipotle and a Wendy's would open on the lot to the north of the Frisch's Big Boy surrounded by Fourth & Fifth Streets and Philadelphia & Bakewell Streets. An Arby's that was also slated to be built on the site was later dropped form the plans.
Katz said that construction on the Wendy's franchise would start soon, beginning with the demolition of the former Smilin' Smoker cigarette shop in the coming days. That store was closed when the property was slated for the new development and later moved a block north.
The Chipotle will follow with a new building that is expected to be open by the fall, Katz said. Chipotle, famous for its large burritos and passionate fans, will be on the Bakewell side of the site while Wendy's will be constructed on the Philadelphia side.
