Here's How You Can Help Keep Covington Looking Beautiful
This year, the Great American Cleanup (GAC) is coming to Covington in a bigger and better way than ever before. In honor of Covington’s bicentennial year, Keep Covington Beautiful (KCB) is partnering with COV200, Center for Great Neighborhoods, and the City of Covington to ensure this year’s GAC creates more excitement, attracts more volunteers, makes Covington more beautiful, and celebrates with participants more than ever before. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
For over a decade, the GAC has been Covington’s single largest and best attended mass service day. In 2014, KCB was able to assemble nearly 1,000 volunteers who collected nearly five tons of trash across the city in just three hours.
This year, there are two ways to get involved:
Host a Site: Last year, over 25 sites participated. Sites can be led by neighborhood groups, businesses, schools, or just a group of friends. KCB will provide all sites with trash bags, gloves, and water for volunteers, as well as free mulch from the City of Covington. KCB is also working on a partnership with the Cincinnati ToolBank to give all sites free rental tools again this year. Additionally, in honor of Covington's bicentennial, KCB is offering a $200 reward to the group with the most improved site.
Join a Site: If volunteers don’t have a particular site in mind but still want to help, they can register as a group or as an individual and KCB will connect them to a site in their area. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and are invited to a complimentary lunch at the after party at Goebel Park.
Those interested in volunteering can register online at http://keepcovingtonbeautiful.com/great-american-cleanup/.
For those who want to know more about the event and how to get involved, KCB is hosting "Community Coffee" on Saturday, March 14 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Covington branch of the Kenton County Public Library at 502 Scott Boulevard in downtown Covington.
Businesses looking to take part in the event are invited to attend a "Business Breakfast" on Thursday, March 12 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at UpTech's offices at 112 W. Pike Street.
To RSVP for the Community Coffee or the Business Breakfast, or for any questions about the event, please contact Shannon Ratterman with Center for Great Neighborhoods at [email protected] or 859-866-7524.
