The 35th District Championship was close for the first three minutes of the game before the the size and quality shooting of Holy Cross took over and carried the Indians to a 52-30 win over Holmes.
Throughout much of the game, the Indians' size proved to be too much for the Lady Bulldogs who struggled to stop the Holy Cross offense in the paint and grab rebounds on both ends of the floor. The game was tied at six in the early stages of the game and it looked like it might be a battle the rest of the way, before the Indians went on a 13-4 run to open a 19-10 lead. From that point on, Holy Cross never looked back. The Indians ended the half scoring four unanswered to close out a 21-8 run, pushing their lead to 27-14 at the half.
The Lady Bullogs went completely cold from the floor in the second half, going the entire 3rd quarter and nearly 12 minutes of the game without a field goal. The one bright spot for Holmes after the break was from the free throw line where they made 10 of 12 attempts. Holy Cross, however, never let up on the gas, pouring in a total of 25 points over the final two quarters en route to the 52-30 victory and the district title.
In all, the two teams had five players named to the All-Tournament Team. Indians Aleah Tucker, Deja Turner, and the tournament's Most Valuable Player, Ally Mayhaus represented Holy Cross while Tyrah Englemon-McClendon and Jaynice Stovall represented the Lady Bulldogs.
Both teams are headed to the 9th Region Tournament next week.
