Thomas More Women Claim Conference Title, Improve to 27-0
The Thomas More College women's basketball team continued its domination of the 2014-15 season when the Saints won their ninth straight President's Athletic Conference championship by beating St. Vincent College, 75-65, on Saturday, and running their winning streak to 27 games.
The Saints are ranked No. 1 in Division III women's basketball by D3Hoops.com, completed an undefeated regular season, won the President's Athletic Conference tournament, and have the PAC Player of the Year, Syndey Moss, on their roster.
This marks the second year in a row that the Saints have gone undefeated in their regular season.
Moss had 28 points and eight rebounds in the PAC championship game. This is the second straight season that Moss has earned PAC Player of the Year, after she averaged 22 points a game and shot over 52 percent from the floor this year. Moss was the PAC Player of the Week four times this season. Her teammates, freshman Abby Owings and senior Sydni Wainscott, who both played at Simon Kenton, were also named to the All-PAC team. Owings was the only freshman to receive the honor of All-PAC First team. Owings averaged over 10 points a game and had a team-high 62 steals on the year.
Wainscott was second on the team in assists with 98, and averaged eight points a game.
The win on Saturday gives them an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament for the seventh straight season. The brackets for the tournament will be unveiled on March 2 at 2:30pm on the NCAA Championship Website (www.ncaa.com). The Saints lost in the NCAA Sectional Final last season.
