Man Arrested After Fatal Crestview Hills Crash
A man is behind bars more than two weeks after a fatal crash in Crestview Hills.
Kenton County Police arrested Scott L. Rains, 33, of Independence on charges related to the March 9 crash on Turkeyfoot Road near College Park Drive that killed Marianne Gerl, of Erlaner.
Through their investigation, which is still ongoing, investigators from the Kenton County Police Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team and the Lakeside Park Crestview Hills Police Department determined that Rains was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the collision.
He has been charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree (Class C Felony – 5 to 10 years of incarceration), DUI in the 1st Degree Aggravated (Up to 30 days of incarceration), 2 Counts of Criminal Mischief in the 1st Degree (Class D Felony – 1 to 5 years of incarceration), and Assault in the 4th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor – up to one year incarceration).
The manslaughter charge relates to the death of Gerl. The assault charge relates to injuries sustained by Allison Crossley, the driver of the second vehicle that Rains struck. Both criminal mischief counts are for damaging property (the vehicles), and the DUI charge relates to Mr. Rains’ impaired driving (the aggravating circumstance is that he caused the death of Ms. Gerl).
Mr. Rains is currently held at the Kenton County Detention Center with a $100,000 bond.
Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sander's Office will handle the prosecution. Rains is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
