Two Accused of Cashing Grandmother's Checks
Two men are behind bars in Kenton County facing a litany of charges -- including stealing checks from their grandmother and cashing them at a bank in Latonia.
Kristopher Byrd, 25, and Matthew Byrd, 23, appeared in Kenton District Court on Thursday afternoon facing two counts and nine counts, respectively, of possessing a forged instrument. Kristopher also faces two counts of first degree burglary, fleeing/evading police, possession of heroin, and contempt of court, while Matthew also faces two counts of first degree burglary, possession of PCP, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
The pair appeared in court on Thursday for a preliminary hearing related only to the forged checks.
A Covington Police officer testified that the pair took checks from their grandmother and cashed them at a bank. The checks ranged in amounts of $5 to $55.
The cases were bound to the Kenton County Grand Jury for indictment consideration. Each Byrd is being held on $10,000 bond.

Correction: A previous version of this article suggested that the bank used was a Huntington branch in the Latonia Kroger. There is a 5/3 bank in the Kroger.
