Construction Apprenticeship Program to Host Open House
The Home Builders Association of Northern Kentucky’s Enzweiler Apprenticeship Program will hold an open house on April 22 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m at their offices in Erlanger. The program is the longest running privately owned apprenticeship program in the nation. The demand for skilled trades people is growing at a rate not seen since before the recession. In a recent study conducted by the association, the Northern Kentucky region will need 2,000 new skilled tradespersons by 2020 and an additional 3,000 by 2025.
The apprenticeship program boasts a 98% job placement rate and a 76% job retention rate for three years upon enrollees’ graduation. Classes are held in the evenings twice a week between September and April. Two-year programs focus on heating ventilation and air conditioning, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and facilities maintenance and remodeling. A four-year program is available in electric and a one-year incumbent program is offered in welding.
Programs are focused on licensure with some courses producing graduates with a 100% licensure exam pass rate. Since 2009, the program has expanded from 57 enrollees to 212 during the 2014-2015 school year. Classroom space is limited and early registration is encouraged to ensure entry into the program. The mission of the Home Builders Association of Northern Kentucky is to promote and enhance the integrity and visibility of the construction industry and the members of the organization through advocacy, communication, education and political action.
