Jeweler's Window Busted, Man Arrested

Covington's oldest business was the target of an early morning burglary on Tuesday and now one man is behind bars.

A front window at Motch Jewelers was busted at around 4 a.m., according to Covington Police. The window display was full of watches.

Not long after, police took Gregory Hall into custody.

Hall, 52, is charged with third degree burglary and is being held on $2,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 2.

On Tuesday afternoon, the broken window had been covered but not repaired.

Motch Jewelers, which opened in 1857, was the target of a much larger theft in December 2013. That's when an apparent group of well organized thieves conducted a heist at the Madison Avenue mainstay, drilling a hole through the safe from the building next door and eventually making off with jewelry worth well into the six figues.

No arrests have ever been made in that case.
