Covington Man Accused in Knoxville Nurse Stabbings
A Covington man is in a Tennessee jail, accused of stabbing two nurses at a Knoxville medical center.
Gary Smallwood, 40, attacked a pair of nurses at Physicians Regional Medical Center with scissors and a knife, WATE reported.
Both nurses were in stable condition following the attacks and hospital officials were looking into what happened in the moments leading up to the attack, according to Knoxville Police, as reported by WBIR.
A female nurse suffered a wound to her upper chest while a male nurse had more serious injuries and lacerations after struggling with Smallwood for the knife. Smallwood was a patient at the hospital but was arrested and taken to jail after the attack.
He faces two counts of attempted murder.
Smallwood was arrested in Covington in December and charged with second degree assault.
