NKY High School Football Week 7: Podcast Previews Friday's Games & Top 5

RCN's Bryan Burke and Michael Monks preview this week's games in this short podcast! Take a listen:

Week 7 showcases fewer local games for Friday as many teams are on a bye this week.

There were few surprises last week as all the favorites seemed to have come out on top, including top-ranked Simon Kenton which crushed Highlands, 42-3. Another team that remained undefeated was Bishop Brossart, which edged Nicholas County by a touchdown, 27-20. The unblemished 5-0 Mustangs are enjoying their best start in years, but face stiff competition this week when they travel to take on Ludlow (4-2). The Panthers feature two tough runners in Justin Blackburn and Jeremiah Martin, both of whom rank in the top six in the region.

The third undefeated team in Northern Kentucky is Ryle, which was off last week and faces George Rogers Clark on Friday at home. George Rogers Clark has been in some close games this season, but has lost them all. For Ryle every game is vital as both divisional rivals Cooper and Conner have put together nice seasons and are in hot pursuit of the Raiders' district lead.

One of the better games this week could be Harrison County at Scott as the Eagles have rushed to five wins and one loss so far in 2015. The Eagles had a similar quality start last year but faltered down the stretch. Coach Dan Wooley hopes to prevent the same from occuring this year, as his team is only one point away from being undefeated, as Conner snuck out of Taylor Mill with a 28-27 win in Week 4.

Another game of local interest is Newport (1-4) traveling to take on Beechwood (4-1). Newport has only allowed eight points in the last two contests, but has only been able to put up 14 points on the board. New head coach Tim Viox has his team responding better than earlier in the year, but still does not have a ton of offensive options as many regular starters graduated a year ago.

RCN Top-5 Poll:

  1. Simon Kenton (6-0)

  2. Ryle (5-0)

  3. Scott (4-1)

  4. Brossart (5-0)

  5. Conner (4-1)

Holding Steady:

Reeling:
