4-Month Old Suffers Broken Bones, Father Arrested
A man is behind bars after his 4-month old son was physically abused, suffering broken bones.
Austin Myers, 19, was arrested Wednesday at his Covington home and is charged with first degree assault (domestic violence).
According to a police report, Myers admitted to causing injuries to his 4-month old son who suffered multiple rib fractures and fractures in both legs. The report indicates that the child also failed to thrive, gaining just 3 ounces. The report suggests that Myers showed extreme indifference to human life.
"This defendant should give thanks to the magnificent doctors, nurses, and other professionals at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center because without their intervention, he'd probably be facing a murder charge," said Kenton Co. Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders. "The horrible things adults do to children, especially their own children, will never cease to amaze me. We take all of our cases very seriously, but we pay special attention to those who victimize the defenseless.
"There is simply no excuse for hurting an infant and we will see to it that anyone who does has plenty of time to think about their actions, in prison."
Myers faces 10 - 20 years in prison. He is being held on $50,000 bond and will appear in court on October 6.
