LUDLOW SHOOTING: Officer Shot, Suspect Killed
A Ludlow Police officer and a suspect were shot Tuesday evening in the parking lot at Riverside Market and Family Dollar on Elm Street.
According to a witness, the suspect, Charles Reynolds of Ludlow, was driving a van when Ludlow officer Sam Hodge flashed his blue lights to request that Reynolds pull over, near the Ludlow Fire Department on Oak Street. The van did not stop until it reached the parking lot near Family Dollar.
Reynolds, according to a witness who was leaving Family Dollar at the time, exited the van and was ordered by Hodge to return to the vehicle. Reynolds refused and instead pulled a gun and fired a shot at the officer. The witness told The River City News that Hodge was hit in the leg (while another report indicated that Hodge had been shot in the arm). A second Ludlow officer returned fire, hitting the suspect.
Officer Hodge and the suspect were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Reynolds was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officer Hodge is in stable condition.
Officers from other nearby police departments and a Kentucky State Trooper responded to the scene alongside Ludlow. An investigation is underway and will possibly include video from the wounded officer's body camera.
