Thomas More to Offer Rugby Beginning This Fall
Thomas More College has announce the expansion of co-curricular opportunities for students through the formation of a rugby program. Men’s and women’s rugby club sports will begin competing in the fall 2016 semester.
Rugby continues to grow in popularity in the United States, with over 1.1 million athletes currently registered with USA Rugby. In 2015, there were 32,000 registered collegiate rugby players on competitive teams - 235 men’s and 185 women’s.
“Thomas More College is dedicated to giving its students every opportunity to develop as students, leaders and competitors, both in the classroom and in the athletic arena,” said Thomas More College President David A. Armstrong, J.D. “We are excited to add rugby to our list of thriving co-curricular activities on campus.”
TMC leaders have been working closely with Rugby Ohio to develop a strategic plan for recruiting talented rugby players that will look forward to competition on the collegiate level. Thomas More will offer financial aid for qualified rugby players interested in competing as a member of the Saints rugby team.
