The St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Sweet 16 girls basketball tournament comes to Northern Kentucky for the first.
BB&T Arena plays host to the tournament, which in recent years has been held in Bowling Green, starting Wednesday. Local teams Holmes and Campbell County represent the 9th and 10th Regions, respectively.
The region expects to see a tourism impact from this historic occasion.
"Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati are true hotbeds of high school sports, and this is an extraordinary opportunity for residents of our region to see premier, state championship-level basketball played by the top high school girls' teams in Kentucky" said Eric Summe, President and CEO of meetNKY (the Northern Kentucky Convention & Visitors Bureau). "And what a great chance to showcase the tremendous venue BB&T Arena, NKU and our entire region to visitors from around Kentucky," Summe said.
