Indicted: Man Involved in Fatal New Year's Eve Crash that Killed Couple
The Kenton County Grand Jury indicted the man involved in a fatal New Year's Eve crash in Independence.
Mark Huffman, 59, is charged with 2 counts of murder and 1 count of first degree criminal mischief.
On December 31, 2015, Huffman's vehicle collided with another car near the intersection of Pelly Road and 3L Highway, killing David and Ella McNay, of Covington.
According to the police report obtained by The River City News, officers smelled alcohol on Huffman and found bottles of Oxycodone on his person. He was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he tested positive for Oxycodone, opiates, and Benzodiazipines, and his blood-alcohol level was between .208 and .223, which is nearly three times the legal limit.
According to the police report, there are multiple witnesses who reported that Huffman was intoxicated that day. One witness told police that he had asked Huffman not to drive due to his apparent intoxication.
Huffman was hospitalized until mid-January when he was finally charged in the case.
He is expected to appear Kenton Circuit Court for arraignment on March 31.
