Jeanetta Stacy, the supervisor of curriculum for Newport Independent Schools, has been hired as the principal of Holmes Middle School.

Stacy, who begins her new assignment on July 1, has 27 years of educational experience including being a classroom teacher, assistant principal and principal.

“I became interested in the position at Holmes Middle School because of the history of Holmes and the potential for growth,’’ Ms. Stacy said. “It is very evident that the people of Covington are invested in their schools and want students to excel.  Teachers are ready to do what’s best for students and I’m excited to be a part of this team.’’

Covington Superintendent Alvin Garrison said Ms. Stacy was one of four people who interviewed for the job. He said Ms. Stacy wowed the School-Based Decision-Making Council, which recommended her for the job.

“She will bring a strong instructional focus to Holmes Middle School,’’ he said.

Ms. Stacy is a native of Morehead, Ky. She has a Bachelors in Elementary Education (1-8), a Masters in Elementary Education, Rank I in Instructional Leadership and an additional Masters in Administration.

Ms. Stacy has also worked as a consultant with the Kentucky Department of Education.  She has been recognized with an Ashland Oil Golden Apple Award and was named a Kentucky Science Teacher Association Elementary Science Teacher of the Year.
