Local Swimmers to Compete at Olympic Trials

The Northern Kentucky Clippers have been recognized by USA Swimming as one of the Top 10 teams in the country after having the most 17-under swimmers qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Trials. In all, there are over 400,000 USA Swimming members in the country.

WIth the most overall qulaifiers in the country, the Clippers were also named among the list of Top 25 swim programs in the country.

The Northern Kentucky Clippers have six current swimmers and six other alumni, who now are training with their college programs, who will compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials set for June 26 – July 3 in Omaha, Nebraska. 

The group of current Clippers swimmers headed to the trials includes recent Notre Dame Academy graduate Madeleine Vonderhaar and recent Covington Catholic graduate Brendan Meyer along with recent home school graduate Mikayla Herich. These three swimmers are joined by teammates Amanda Smith and Sophie Skinner who both attend Notre Dame Academy. Also training with this group is Thomas Thetford, a NCAA DIII National Champion from Washington and Lee University in Virginia. Thetford has returned to train with the Clippers in preparation for the Olympic swimming trials this summer.
