Latonia Bank Robbery Suspect Surrounded, Arrested
Employees of the U.S. Bank on the 3900 block of Winston Avenue in Latonia called police just past 1 p.m. Wednesday and said that the branch was being robbed.
A man had walked in and produced a note demanding cash.
Within moments, police units from Covington, Kenton Co., Taylor Mill, Ft. Wright, and Edgewood had the building surrounded.
Covington Police Lt. Col. Brian Steffen told The River City News that that is when the suspect allowed the bank employees to leave. There were no customers inside.
After the employees walked out, the suspect also exited the bank and surrendered.
The suspect was later identified as James Waibel, 55, who is now in the Kenton County Detention Center where he is charged with second degree robbery. He is being held on $10,000 bond. He Waibel was arraigned in Kenton District Court on Thursday morning.
Steffen said that no weapons were found.
