Independence Woman Killed in Boone County Crash
A Saturday afternoon crash in Walton left one woman dead and another with life-threatening injuries.
A vehicle traveling northbound on I-75 at the 176 mile marker suffered a tire malfunction and its driver, Mercedes Daniels, lost control. The 1998 Ford Explorer exited the roadway and overturned multiple times into a nearby tree line. Daniels, 58, of Independence, was ejected from the vehicle.
Angela Wood, 56, of Independence, was a passenger in Daniels's car and died at the scene. Daniels was transported by helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
An 8-year old girl who was a passenger in the rear of Daniels's vehicle was also transported by helicopter to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. Her injuries are not suspected to be life-threatening, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
The accident shut down the interstate for several hours. The Boone County Sheriff's Office accident reconstruction unit is investigating.
