LISTEN: RCN Live! is the Conversation Northern Kentucky Needed
"Here we are tonight finding ourselves tonight divided by two very flawed candidates. One, a man who comes off as brash and wants us to believe some fresh face to politics like we haven't seen him around since the 1980s and the other is a woman whose awkward campaigning makes even her strongest supporters uncomfortable.
- but enough about the Covington, Kentucky mayor's race."
What a night it was on Friday at Hotel Covington where The River City News hosted a blockbuster edition of RCN Live!, a live stage show and podcast that packed the boutique hotel's beautiful new patio.
More than 100 people joined RCN's Michael Monks as he had fun at Northern Kentucky's expense - and also talked about some important issues with special guests Jim Gray, the Lexington mayor and Democratic U.S. senator candidate, and new Gateway Community & Technical College president Fernando Figueroa. The all-star panel discussion featured former Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen, TV Journalist and mom Alison Montoya, and former Enquirer politics writer-turned-public relations strategist Pat Crowley. Fort Thomas Matters publisher Mark Collier provided live updates from the conversation on social media.
The issues discussed included the heated Covington mayor's race, whether Northern Kentucky would be better off with metro government, the future of Gateway's downtown Covington campus, if local school districts should merge, and how progressive politics could be rebuilt locally and statewide. And since this is RCN Live!, there were also some fun conversations about Northern Kentucky University's new mascot, the Anchor Grill, and more.
Now - you can listen to the entire show below. It's the conversation Northern Kentucky needed - and a show that could only be produced by The River City News.
