Cooper Advances in Kentucky Sweet 16, Beats Meade Co. 54-39
Cooper moved on to the quarterfinals of the Kentucky Sweet 16, downing Meade Co. in boys basketball action Thursday night at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
The Jaguars, making their first appearance in the state tournament, dominated throughout, leading by as many as 21 before finally putting the Green Wave away, 54-39.
Cooper, champions of the 9th Region, bolted to a 23-15 lead at halftime, and Meade Co., making a Cinderella run in the post-season by winning the 3rd Region with a losing record, never overcame the deficit.
Junior guard Adam Kunkel led Cooper with 16 points. Senior Sean McNeill added 9 and junior Tyler Ollier put in 8 for the Jaguars. Cooper has now won fifteen straight games, improving to 28-4 on the season. No team has gotten within single digits of the Jaguar since Valentine's Day.
Cooper will play Collins (23-12), champions of the 8th Region, on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The other Northern Kentucky team among the quarterfinalists, Scott, plays at 1:30 p.m. Friday against Perry County Central.
