KKK Flyers Distributed in Covington, Newport

Some residents in Covington awoke to find flyers, purportedly from the Ku Klux Klan, outside their doors on Thursday morning.

Similar flyers promoting the same KKK website were distributed around Newport late last month.

In Covington, the flyer was anti-Islam and urged people to join the Traditionalist Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The Newport flyer was more varied in its hatred, with remarks against African-Americans, gangs, police, and drugs.

Covington Police told The River City News that they were aware of the flyers. In Newport, Police Chief Tom Collins said at the time that the department was not aware of the March incident, but that within the past year, similar flyers had been circulated.

A Newport resident confirmed that flyers purportedly from the KKK had been distributed in parts of the city twice in the past year. In Covington, the flyers were reported around Holman Avenue, while the flyers were reported in the south end of Newport.

According to recent news reports, similar incidents have taken place in New Jersey, Maine, North Carolina, New York, and elsewhere.
