Tower Comes Down: Kenton County Demolishes Damaged Communication Site
A hectic weekend for Kenton County officials ended with a bang on Tuesday afternoon.
An emergency communications tower in Devou Park was damaged Friday by a falling tree. The structural integrity of the tower was compromised, prompting an evacuation of the Children's Home of Northern Kentucky, which sits just feet away.
At 1 p.m. Tuesday, demolition crews detonated explosives to remove the damaged tower, which provides much of the coverage available to emergency responders in the northern part of Kenton County.
A temporary tower was expected to be used in the interim.
Though the ordeal stretched over the course of several days, the actual demolition was quite short, and county officials were headed back to the administration building in downtown Covington less than an hour later.
