Campbell Sheriff Mike Jansen Announces Reelection Bid
Campbell County Sheriff Mike Jansen will seek reelection, he announced Monday.
Citing an enhancement of operations within the office, as well as boosts to morale and professionalism, Jansen will appear on the 2018 ballot.
"One of the proudest moments of my life is when the people of Campbell County chose me to be their sheriff," said Jansen, a Fort Thomas Republican who spent a career in law enforcement before winning election in 2014. "And I am proud to once again stand before the voters and humbly ask for their support in 2018.
"Our team has worked hard to make major and lasting changes in the Sheriff's office, which are designed to deliver the most professional public services and public safety we can," Sheriff Jansen said. "And we would honored to continue serving all of the residents of Campbell County."
Jansen said that he kicked off his campaign and held a fundraiser on October 4 in Newport.
"As a lawyer, as a Campbell County native, as a business owner, as a father and as a husband, Mike Jansen is the kind of person we want to keep as Campbell County Sheriff," said attorney Brandon Voelker. "He is an experienced law enforcement officer, has tremendous administrative and leadership skills, shares the values of the residents and is giving the taxpayers of Campbell County a great bang for their buck."
Lee Weinel, an accountant from Fort Thomas, said Sheriff Jansen takes a "common sense" business approach to managing the Sheriff's office, which has a budget of more than $2 million and 30 employees.
"Lots of politicians say they are going to run government like a business," Weinel said. "Sheriff Jansen uses a smart, business-like approach to effectively and efficiently manage the resources, budget, employees and operations of the Sheriff's office. I tell everyone I see in Campbell County to make sure they support Sheriff Mike Jansen for re-election next year."
