Buy License Plate Birdhouses from County Clerks and Help Veterans
County clerks across Kentucky are joining together to raise money for veterans.
Kenton County Clerk Gabrielle Summe said that one of the highlights of the annual Kentucky County Clerks Association's annial convention, held last week, was the auction held on behalf of Helping A Veteran Everyday (H.A.V.E.), the charitable organization created by the clerks association to raise money for veterans homes in Kentucky.
At last week's convention, the H.A.V.E. auction raised approximately $6,000 dollars.
Now in its seventh year the H.A.V.E. auction was created and is conducted by Winston Meade from Letcher County, James Lewis from Leslie County, and Haven King from Perry County.
In addition to the yearly auction, Winston Meade donates his time and talents to create birdhouses out of the various Kentucky license plates.
“The reason we do this auction is to help our veterans. It is that simple,” King said.
Most county clerks offices have the birdhouses available, and they can be purchased or ordered for a $20 donation.
