Norse Fall at UMBC, Head to #9 Texas A&M Tuesday
If the Northern Kentucky Norse were looking for some momentum heading into this week's match-up with a top ten team, they didn't find it in Maryland.
Maryland-Baltimore County escaped NKU on Sunday, 76 to 75.
Drew McDonald had a double-double in the losing effort, posting 24 points and 11 rebounds. Carson Williams added 21 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Lavone Holland II added 15 for the Norse.
UMBC's Jairus Lyles led all scorers with 31.
The game was tight throughout and featured seven ties and sex lead changes in the first half alone. The teams were tied at 43 at the half.
The second half saw the same back and forth, with five ties and seven lead changes.
Lyles put the Retrievers up for good, 76 to 74, with 1:32 left to play.
A Holland free throw brought the Norse back within one with 1:19 to play. He also took the last shot of the game, which fell short, giving UMBC the win.
NKU falls to 7-4 on the season.
Next up, the Norse hit the road again to College Station, Texas for a match-up with 9th-ranked Texas A&M (9-1) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. (eastern).
