Campbell Co. Officer Recovering After Underage Driver Crashes Into Cruiser

A Campbell Co. Police officer is out of the hospital after an underage driver in a stolen car crashed into her cruiser.

Media reports indicate that a teen driver, under the legal driving age, stole a car in Cincinnati and was spotted by Newport Police on I-471 headed into Kentucky.

The teen was driving at a high rate of speed. Ultimately, the the teen lost control of the vehicle in the roundabout on Nunn Drive at Northern Kentucky University, jumped the curb of the median, crashing into a Campbell County Police cruiser operated by Officer Amanda Bray, 24. 

Bray was not pursuing the boy but had attempted to prevent other drivers from coming into the path of the pursuit by activating her emergency lights and stopping in the lane of traffic just prior to the roundabout.

Bray was removed from her vehicle and transported to the emergency room at St. Elizabeth Hospital where she was treated and released. She is currently on light duty pending a medical determination that she may return to full duty.
Bray has been with the Campbell County Police Department since 2015. Her body cam was not activated at the time.
The crash is being investigated by Northern Kentucky University Police and the criminal component of the case is being investigated by the Cold Spring Police Department.
Further details about the juvenile in the case were not immediately available.
