Walton-Verona Student Arrested for Alleged Threats at School

A Walton teen is charged with causing alarm at Walton-Verona High School.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office reported Monday that the teen was charged on Sunday for remarks he made on Friday, leading other students to fear for their safety.

The 16-year old junior faces a charge of second degree terroristic threatening after he allegedly became upset when a teacher took his mobile phone. He then allegedly told another student that he felt like he needed to kill someone, the sheriff's office said.

In that same conversation, the sheriff's office said, the student looked at his watch and made a suspicious gesture when asked about how long it would take law enforcement to arrive at the school.

The boy is being held at the Campbell Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Newport.

The arrest is the latest in more than half a dozen arrests of Boone County juveniles on similar charges in the past couple weeks since the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fla.
