Photos: Covington Catholic Wins 9th Region Crown; Scott, Campbell Co. to Play for 10th
For the third time in the past five seasons, Covington Catholic is heading to the Kentucky Sweet 16 as champions of the 9th Region.
The Colonels ran away from Dixie Heights early and only extended the lead as the game continued, putting down the upstart other Colonels, 74 to 31 on Monday night at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights.
C.J. Frederick led Cov Cath with 24 points, while A.J. Mayer and Aiden Ruthsatz each chipped in 14.
Covington Catholic will face the Region 3 champion, still to be determined, in the opening round of the Sweet 16 on Thursday, March 15, at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
Meanwhile, in the 10th Region, it will be a battle between Scott and Campbell County for a trip to Rupp.
Both teams won in dramatic fashion in Monday night's semifinals at Mason County High School.
Scott was down 12 points to Paris at the end of the third quarter but stormed back to win, 46 to 43, in its quest to repeat as regional champs.

It took overtime for the Camels, but Campbell Co. was able to get by George Rogers Clark, 76 to 71.
