Boone Deputy Fires Four Times at Fleeing Suspect
A Boone County Sheriff's deputy opened fire on a fleeing suspect, shooting four times as the man sped off in a car.
Deputies were called to the Marathon gas station on Verona-Mudlick Road in Verona at around 2 a.m. Monday after being called about a suspicious person who had been at the store for an inordinate amount of time.
When deputies tried to arrest the man, it was discovered that he was too large for the handcuffs, WXIX reported. Larger handcuffs were called for.
But when deputies tried again to subdue the man, he fled, got in a car, and drove off.
That's when the deputy opened fire.
The suspect drove to Gallatin County and then to Indiana. The vehicle was later found in Indiana but man remains at large.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
