Cold Weather Prompts Emergency Shelter to Reopen in Covington
The Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky is reopening outside of its usual season due to the cold temperatures.
It reopened on Wednesday night as temperatures fell below freezing, and with more cold temperatures and snow on the way, it will likely open on Friday and Saturday, too, the shelter's Facebook page said.
Other nights could be added as needed. It opens to Kentucky residents at 6 p.m. and all other adults at 9 p.m.
The shelter, located at 634 Scott Blvd. in Covington, is looking for donations of lightweight blankets, white or black tube socks, sweatpants, and shelf stable snacks.
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter.
The National Weather Service expects low temperatures in the 20s on Friday and Saturday, as well as accumulating snow for Northern Kentucky.
