Newport Catholic Gala Raises $102,500, New Scholarship Announced
The recent gala hosted by Newport Central Catholic raised $102,500.
The money will be used to fund tuition assistance programs at the school.
The event was co-chaired by Wade and Tina Smith and Jim and Candace Doepker.
Additionally, a new scholarship was announced.
Anna Rose Schutzman was the mother and grandmother of fourteen former New Cath students. She has been a longtime supporter of NCC and the tuition assistance program.
After her death on January 9, her family requested that donations be given to the Newport Central Catholic tuition fund.
To date, family and friends have contributed over $192,000.
In her honor a scholarship fund has been established and each year the Anna Rose Schutzman Scholarship Fund will award $2,000 each to 12 incoming or current students for tuition assistance strictly based on need. The family and friends will continue to raise funds for these scholarships.
After students are notified of scholarship nomination, they will volunteer at the Mother Stephenia Soup Kitchen in Covington, Kentucky to receive the scholarship. This soup kitchen was a place that Anna Rose found special in her service.
Also at the event, the St. John Baptist De La Salle Award was given in recognition for extensive stewardship in the mission of Newport Central Catholic High School. Joe and Linda Klare, and Phil and Mary Ciafardini were presented this honor at the Gala.
