NKU Athletic Director Appointed to NCAA Women's Basketball Committee

Northern Kentucky University Director of Athletics Ken Bothof has been appointed to the 10-member NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee. His term on the committee begins immediately and runs through August 2020.

“I’m looking forward to being a contributing member of the women’s basketball committee,” said Bothof. “The sport of women’s basketball has such an important role in college athletics and I look forward to supporting its growth.”

Bothof is concluding his fifth year as Director of Athletics at NKU, his 16th as an AD at the Division I level. He has been responsible for overseeing Northern Kentucky’s successful transition from Division II to Division I.

While not permitted to compete in NCAA Division I postseason competition during the transition, Norse women’s basketball reached the postseason all four years. NKU played in the WBI, hosting the first round of the tournament each season.

Under Bothof’s guidance, Northern Kentucky was positioned for success following its transition, which culminated with active status prior to the start of the 2016-17 campaign. Women’s soccer claimed the 2016 Horizon League Tournament and faced overall No. 1-seed West Virginia in the NCAA tourney.

Additionally, NKU’s men’s basketball program has recorded the most successful first two years of active Division I status, becoming the first team in DI history to win a league regular season (2018), league tournament (2017), earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament (2017) and participate in the NIT (2018) in its first two years of eligibility. Most recently, men’s golfer Jacob Poore won the league championship and earned a spot in the 2018 NCAA Regionals.

During Bothof’s tenure as the athletics director at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, the Phoenix’s women’s basketball program rose to prominence and is now a perennial top-25 basketball program. The team participated in 10 NCAA tournaments throughout Bothof’s 12 years, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2011.

Bothof is a member of the Horizon League Council and is one of 12 members on the League’s Basketball Issues Committee. He has also served on the NCAA Leadership Council and the Women’s Basketball Issues Committee.
