What Really Happened When Van Hit Covington Bridge
There was no fire, no explosion, and were no serious injuries.
Covington Police say some media outlets were incorrect in their reporting after a commercial van crashed into the CSX Railroad bridge on Main Street between 4th and 5th Streets late Tuesday night.
Instead, Chief Rob Nader said, the original dispatch call referenced an explosion - which turned out not to be true.
The van was headed south on Main when it hit the bridge.
There were also reports of an unknown chemical on the ground, but the chemicals turned out to belong to the cleaning company that operates the van.
The injuries suffered by two people were not life-threatening, Nader said.
Meanwhile, the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the police department's traffic unit.
