Kentucky State Sen. Chris McDaniel (R-Taylor Mill) has received the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP) Outstanding Legislative Service Award for his support of law enforcement during the 2018 Kentucky General Assembly regular session.
Sen. McDaniel received the award during the KACP's 2018 Annual Conference, which was held July 29th through Aug. 2 in Boone County. It was the second year in a row the award was given to Sen. McDaniel, who chairs the Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee, also known as the budget committee.
"It is an honor to be presented this award by the Police Chief’s Association for my work on behalf of law enforcement throughout Kentucky," Sen. McDaniel said during the Aug. 1 conference banquet. "These are individuals who have reached the pinnacle of a career that epitomizes what it means to be a public servant. For them to recognize me in this way is humbling beyond words."
As chairman of the budget committee, Sen. McDaniel was instrumental in passing legislation regarding the Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund (KLEFPF), which provides an annual training stipend of $4,000 a year to law enforcement offices and other first responders. Specifically, the legislation codified the increase into law, mandating that funding for the stipend be included every two years in the budget enacted by The General Assembly.
"The KLEFPF bill was a top KACP priority during the 2018 legislative session, and it would not have passed without Sen. McDaniel's assistance and support," said Paducah Police Chief and outgoing KACP President Brandon Barnhill. "On behalf of the KACP, I thank Sen. McDaniel for his long-time commitment to law enforcement and public safety in the commonwealth."
Sen. McDaniel was elected to the Kentucky State Senate in 2012 and represents Kentucky's 23rd Senate District, which covers much of Kenton County.
